About event

The Boris Eifman Ballet Theater will present the ballet “Russian Hamlet” at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. The production, created to the music of L. Beethoven and G. Mahler, tells the story of the life of Paul I, one of the most mysterious and controversial characters in Russian history. Choreographer Boris Eifman limited the chronological scope of the production to the period of succession of Paul I, brilliantly depicting his tragic confrontation with a hostile world built on violence and lies.

Performance "Russian Hamlet" Over the years of its existence, it has been successfully demonstrated in the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, China, South Korea, Argentina and other countries. The premiere of the ballet evoked enthusiastic responses from critics. The New York Times called Boris Eifman “virtually the only choreographer with a gift for electrifying images and theatrical fantasies.” In the 40th anniversary season, the Eifman Theater revived “Russian Hamlet”, rethinking the choreographic score and making it even more refined and emotionally rich.

The Shanghai Center for Oriental Art, known for its large-scale cultural events, will provide a stage for the tour of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theater. The center is famous for its modern architecture and excellent acoustics, which allows spectators to be completely immersed in the atmosphere of the performance. The theater's tour in Shanghai promises to become a significant event in the cultural life of the city.
