Leo Tolstoy’s novel has a huge number of characters, but Eifman boldly removed the secondary lines, focusing on the love triangle: Anna Karenina, her husband Alexei Karenin and lover Alexei Vronsky. It is around their destinies that a drama unfolds, full of psychological energy, internal struggle and insoluble moral conflicts.

A visit to the ballet will give you the opportunity to look at the famous work from a new angle. In two hours, viewers will have to penetrate into the inner world of the heroine, understand how passion, which became her basic instinct, destroyed maternal love, family ties and, ultimately, the personality itself. This is the story of a reborn woman, crushed by social norms and her own sensual desires.

The director is convinced that the main driving force of the tragedy is an all-consuming passion, against which any moral principles are powerless.

Over the many years of the project’s existence, the role of Anna was performed by outstanding soloists of Boris Eifman’s troupe. Their performing technique and body plasticity conveyed to the audience the full depth of the heroine’s psychological vicissitudes.

Despite almost two hundred years that have passed since the writing of the novel, its plot has a deep emotional impact, reflections and leaves not only answers, but also many new questions.
