Description

The Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, named after Dmitry Shostakovich, is an important cultural center in Samara. Since its foundation in 1931, the theater has become a significant part of city life. The first work presented on its stage was Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov. That same year, viewers saw the first ballet production - The Red Poppy to the music of Reinhold Glière. In 1982, the theater was awarded the title of "academic", and in 2022 it was named after the famous composer Dmitry Shostakovich.

The theater building is located on a historical square, formerly known as Sobornaya. Architects from Leningrad, Noah Trotsky and Nikolai Katzenellenbogen, created a project in the neoclassical style. The facade is decorated with columns and sculptures, which gives it grandeur and elegance.

The theater serves as the main cultural center of Samara, offering viewers a wide selection of opera and ballet performances. For the convenience of guests, information about the repertoire and schedule is available on the official website. Tickets can be purchased both at the theater box office and online. In 2006, a large-scale reconstruction of the building began, which was completed by the anniversary in 2010. This made it possible to preserve the cultural heritage of the theater and meet modern standards of comfort and technical equipment.
