"Russian Hamlet" on the stage of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre

In his interpretation of the famous work, Eifman drew attention to the personality of Paul I, one of the most mysterious and controversial characters in Russian history. The plot of the play takes place during his reign, and the choreographer managed to convey superbly the tragic confrontation of an extraordinary and spiritually fragile personality with a hostile world dominated by violence and lies.

As Boris Eifman said, the fate of Tsarevich Paul is very reminiscent of the fate of Hamlet and is also full of mysteries and secrets. The future tsar was born a bright person, was very educated and was preparing to devote himself to the Fatherland. But the murder of his father, the rejection of his mother, the oppression of constant intrigue, fear and surveillance greatly influenced Paul and his mind. Inclined to believe in mysticism, he sensed the imminent end and hurried to do as much as possible for the country. He was never understood, brutally killed and cursed.

The performance was highly praised for its uniqueness, original concept, magnificent music, costumes and scenery. This interpretation of Eifman's Hamlet became one of the most famous and powerful creations of his career. The performance was also successfully presented abroad, including in the USA and Europe. "Russian Hamlet" became one of the most popular works of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theater and continues to delight audiences with its heartfelt and mesmerizing performance.
