Boris Eifman's Ballet "The Pygmalion Effect" to Be Presented in St. Petersburg
The Alexandrinsky Theatre will host a showing of Boris Eifman's ballet "The Pygmalion Effect".
"The Pygmalion Effect" is a new work by Boris Eifman - the choreographer's first experience in recent years of turning to the comedy, or rather, tragicomedy genre. Eifman, a recognized master of his craft, continues to draw inspiration from the world's cultural heritage, and this time offers viewers a ballet interpretation of the archetypal story of a sculptor who falls in love with the statue of a beautiful girl he created.
Boris Eifman, as a tireless researcher of the human soul, bases the title of his new ballet on a theory from the field of psychology. He refers to the concept of the "Pygmalion Effect", a phenomenon of the influence of expectations on reality. According to this concept, a person who is perceived by others as talented gains self-confidence and achieves success. Eifman finds comprehensive artistic and philosophical revelation in the plasticity of personality, capable of unpredictably changing in accordance with expectations and dreams. His performance is an amazing study of this phenomenon.
