Ballet “Russian Hamlet” at the Alexandrinsky Theater: The tragedy of Paul I comes to life on stage

From August 16 to 21, at the Alexandrinsky Theater, spectators will be able to enjoy the ballet “Russian Hamlet” from the Boris Eifman Ballet Theater. This performance, dedicated to the fate of Paul I, one of the most mysterious and controversial characters in Russian history, promises to become a real cultural event.

Boris Eifman, a master of choreographic art, brilliantly depicted the tragic confrontation of an extraordinary and mentally fragile personality with a hostile world built on violence, treachery and lies. The play "Russian Hamlet" has already won the hearts of viewers in the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, China, South Korea, Argentina and many other countries.

In the 40th anniversary season, the Eifman Theater again turned to “Russian Hamlet”, rethinking the choreographic score and making it even more inventive and emotionally rich. The plot outline remained without significant changes, which allows viewers to once again plunge into the world of the tragedy of Paul I.

The fate of Prince Pavel, reminiscent of the fate of Hamlet, is covered with many secrets and mystical omens. Born with a bright outlook and brilliantly educated, he was ready to serve the Fatherland. However, the murder of his father, the dislike of his mother, who was afraid of her son-heir, and the atmosphere of constant surveillance, intrigue, fear and humiliation plunged the future emperor into a world of fantastic hallucinations, mania of persecution and spiritual loneliness.

«Russian Hamlet» – This is the story of the young Tsarevich Paul during the period of his bright ambitious desires and the first tragic disasters. This is a search for your answer to Hamlet’s eternal “To be or not to be?”
