The ballet troupe under the direction of Boris Eifman will once again present the ballet "Anna Karenina"

This production is more than two decades old, and since its first performance it has been recognized as a new stage in Eifman’s creative career. The choreographer managed the impossible — to convey the depth of Leo Tolstoy’s novel through dance, something no other director on the Russian stage had ever achieved.

Eifman decided to focus on the novel’s main love story, highlighting the triangle of relationships between Anna, Karenin and Vronsky. This dynamic of passions ultimately leads the main character to a tragic ending. Already at the beginning of the first act, the viewer sees Anna’s son Seryozha’s little train carefreely circling the proscenium. In the finale, the actors themselves take on the role of the train, which has become an unusual and memorable directorial technique.

The corps de ballet, dressed in black leather jackets, embodies Anna’s dark dream. They do not simply create a crowd background, but act as full-fledged participants in the action. These "black" figures reproduce the movements of the locomotive, under whose wheels Anna will throw herself. In the final scene, four rows of dancers in black tights merge into the image of a frightening machine, where their hands move like the pistons of an inexorable locomotive, symbolizing the end of the tragic love of Anna and Vronsky.

The musical part of the ballet is based on the works of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Eifman carefully selected fragments from fourteen different compositions of the outstanding composer to create the right atmosphere.

Tickets for the ballet "Anna Karenina" by Boris Eifman at the Alexandrinsky Theater offer the viewer a unique understanding of the Russian classics, familiar to each of us from school years.
