Boris Eifman Theatre invites you to performances
The author's, director's theater, an experimental laboratory of one choreographer, released two ballets "Two-Voices" and "Boomerang" at the first stages. The success was stunning, and critics vied with each other to talk about a new page in Russian ballet art. They are still talking about this, because each production of the Eifman Theater is a significant cultural event.
On March 17 the Alexandrinsky Theater will host the ballet "On the Other Side of Sin", staged on the work of the great Russian classic Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky "The Brothers Karamazov". This work, created to the music of S. V. Rachmaninov, R. Wagner and M. P. Mussorgsky, explores the most hidden corners of the human soul, and all this with the help of the author's choreography created by the great wizard of the theater Boris Eifman. The title reflects the desire to find the root cause of the moral tragedy that befell the heroes of Dostoevsky's novel - the choreographer agrees with the original source that from birth, every person not only bears the stamp of evil, but also conceals a bright creative principle from the Lord God himself. There is no Katerina Ivanovna in the ballet - only Grushenka remains. The choreographer does not want to confuse the viewer with love triangles, he spoke about them so subtly in his ballet Anna Karenina that there was simply no room for them in Beyond Sin. The premiere of the next ballet based on the work by Dostoevsky took place on April 29, 2013, and since then it has been one of the most popular performances of the Eifman troupe.
March 18-19 – «Russian Hamlet» at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Boris Eifman’s ballet to the music of L. Beethoven and G. Mahler tells us about the difficult fate of one of the most controversial emperors of Russia, Paul I. The only son of Catherine the Great finds himself opposed to the intrigues of the court, the cruelty of the century, the darkness of serfdom, which he dreams of rejecting. By limiting the chronological framework of the production to the period of his reign, Eifman, with the help of amazingly deep and emotional dance, shows how difficult was the struggle of the fragile nature of the Tsarevich with everything that surrounded him. The premiere took place on June 24, 1999, the new version - April 26, 2017. More than one generation of actors has changed, but the performance still remains one of the best in the Eifman Theater.
April 9 event in the Kremlin Palace. The gala concert "Eifman Gala" is a two-act concert program of the St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theater of Boris Eifman, within the framework of which the audience on the main stage of the country will be able to see the most iconic and emotional dance parts from such popular ballets as "Anna Karenina", "Beyond Sin", "Russian Hamlet", "Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA", and many others. This potpourri will allow the viewer to get acquainted with various performances of the Eifman troupe, in order to go to full-fledged performances later.
Tickets to the Boris Eifman Theater are a journey into the world of deep psychology, the most complex stories of existence set with the help of the language of choreography, the beauty of dance and the director's magnificent view of the works of Russian and world literary classics. Each production of the choreographer is an event that simply cannot be missed, because with each of his performances he forever transforms Russian ballet into something new and fundamentally beautiful!
