Boris Eifman's Ballet on Tour at the Alexandrinsky Theatre
Eifman is not afraid to turn to the most complex classical works in his work. Once his Chekhov's "The Seagull" conquered Japan, "Anna Karenina" collected ovations on all tours of Europe and America. The founder of the first author's theater in the USSR created more than forty ballet productions, each of which became a real revelation for the audience, turning the idea of domestic choreography upside down. Almost all of his productions are plot-driven and often have a literary basis, from which Eifman invariably extracts very deep psychologism.
On March 17, the Alexandrinsky Theater will host the production of "Beyond Sin". This is another turn of the maestro to the immortal novel by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, in which all other plot lines except the main one are deliberately discarded. There was no task to fit the entire titanic volume of the work into the ballet, but Eifman succeeded in showing all the darkness and light of human depth one hundred percent. The production, which was first released back in 2013, uses music by S. V. Rachmaninov, R. Wagner and M. P. Mussorgsky. In the dance, the artists ask questions about the fight against God, the search for God, unbelief and sincere faith in God, the nature of human sinfulness and spiritual salvation.
March 18-19 ballet "Russian Hamlet" in Alexandrinsky. This is the story of Tsarevich Pavel Petrovich - one of the most controversial rulers in Russian history, the son of Catherine the Great. In the darkness of his never-become-native Russia, in the shadow of his strong-willed mother, Pavel Petrovich has a fragile soul and dreams of creating a better world. But already during his reign, it becomes clear that the young man is destined to lose the fight with cruel fate. "Russian Hamlet" was staged in 2017, and features works by L. Beethoven and G. Mahler. The monumentality of the music of great composers reflects the vast country that young Pavel is about to inherit.
On April 9, the Great Hall of the Kremlin Palace will host a gala concert of the Boris Eifman Theater, during which viewers will be able to see individual dance numbers from various productions by the choreographer. There will be a dance by Anna Karenina, a piece from "Russian Hamlet", and much, much more, which will allow the audience to look into each of the choreographer's productions. Tickets to the Boris Eifman Theatre are an opportunity to see a very high-level ballet, in which dance and psychological depth are intertwined, allowing you to read classical works in a new way.
